Beyond the Mask

An intensive musical theatre experience with the leads of The Phantom of the Opera Mexico

One date. One edition.

After more than 300 performances living this story from the inside, we want to open up our process, for one time only, and share everything we learned on stage.

Not just what you study in class.

Also what you only understand after auditioning, getting the part, building a character, taking direction, facing difficult performances and telling the same story night after night without letting it stop being true.

Before we close this chapter of The Phantom of the Opera, we want to live this experience with you, in person.

What we're going to share

Get the role

Everything starts before you set foot on stage.

We'll talk about our own auditions, about what we would do differently today, and about what we learned after living from the inside the characters we once had to audition for.

  • How to walk into an audition.
  • How to choose what to show.
  • How to make a song speak about you.
  • How to take a new direction.
  • How to adapt without losing your identity.
  • And what makes someone go from simply having talent to feeling ready to take on a professional responsibility.

Make it yours

Once you have the character, another challenge begins: making it yours.

We'll work on how to find a personal interpretation without copying what already exists.

  • How to connect text, intention, body and voice.
  • How to stop “showing an emotion” and start truly living a need.
  • How to listen to your scene partner.
  • How to build a scene.
  • How to make the same song transform completely depending on what you're thinking, feeling and trying to get.
  • Because the notes may be the same. The interpretation is what makes them yours.

Keep it alive

Getting a part is only the beginning. The hard part is doing it again. And again. And again.

After more than 300 performances, we also want to share the part of the work almost nobody talks about.

  • How to sustain your energy.
  • How to get through two-show days.
  • How to work when you're not feeling one hundred percent.
  • How to take care of your instrument.
  • How to recover a scene when something goes differently.
  • How to avoid going on autopilot.
  • How to find the emotion again when you've been playing the same character for months.
  • And how to keep telling a story as if it were the first time.

11 participants

During the masterclass, 11 artists will be selected to work directly with us.

Each participant will prepare a musical theatre excerpt in advance.

The work happens in front of the group and unfolds in different moments:

  1. The audition

A first pass, as if you were walking into an audition. We'll look at what you communicate, what we understand about you and what is working from the very first seconds.

  2. The redirect

You'll receive a new direction and will have to perform the material again incorporating it. We'll work on listening, adaptation, presence and the capacity to transform.

  3. The performance

We'll go deeper into text, intention, phrasing, breath, body, gaze and narrative. The goal won't simply be to “correct” a song. It will be to discover what happens when you stop presenting it and truly start living it.

What comes after talent

We also want to talk about everything that begins when training meets the profession.

  • How to take notes.
  • How to work within a company.
  • How to build a good professional reputation.
  • How to handle comparison.
  • How to get through a difficult performance.
  • How to keep growing after landing a big opportunity.
  • How to protect your artistic identity.
  • And what makes a team want to work with you again.

Ask us what you can't ask in an audition

We'll close the day with an open conversation.

  • Auditions.
  • Performances.
  • Preparation.
  • Mistakes.
  • Casting.
  • Creative processes.
  • Life inside a big production.
  • Professional career.

Everything you normally can't ask inside an audition.

One time only

Beyond the Mask was born as a way of saying goodbye to this chapter by sharing what the stage left us.

We don't want to hand you a formula to become someone else.

We want to show you the tools, decisions and lessons that helped us get here, so you can find your own way of doing it.

  • 6 hours inside the process.
  • 11 artists working directly with us.
  • One single in-person edition.
